2502_[1] PUBLIC PARTICIPATION SESSION
Members of the public raised questions and comments regarding the Somer Valley Links proposals for Temple Cloud. The Parish Council reported they had received very little details regarding the proposals and consultation and recommended members of the public attend the public consultation at the village hall on 24th February (3pm to 7pm) to raise concerns directly with BANES.
Noted: Website link: https://www.bathnes.gov.uk/somer-valley-links
Comments from the public included:
- Removing the bus lay-bys will increase congestion creating traffic queues every time a bus waits at the bus stop, with no option for traffic to pass
- The pollution and emissions will increase due to a stationary tailback of HGV’s buses and cars that can not pass buses waiting at the bus stops
- The school buses waiting in the morning will block traffic for significant amounts of time. This will create significant traffic delays during busiest times of the day and exasperate the problems for rural communities
- Removing the pull in bus stops will remove the natural separation of space between school children and passing traffic and HGV’s on the main road, this increases the risk of serious road traffic accidents by removing the natural barrier between children and the road
- Emergency vehicles response times will be significantly increased due to increased congestion
- Public transport times will be increased due to significant congestion caused by the proposals
- The consultation had been very poorly publicised to the public and the Parish Council.
- Retention of the lay-bys for the buses would be the preferred outcome
