Dear Parish and Town Councils,
We are pleased to share with you Guidance for producing ‘Parish and Town Nature Action Plans’, which will help Parish and Town Councils to plan and take effective action for nature in their local area. This is in response to a positive reception to this concept from Parish and Town Councils, and meets one of the actions we committed to in our Ecological Emergency Action Plan.
The new guidance provides ideas and a template for how to develop and deliver a NAP. The most effective NAPs will be developed in partnership with local expertise and community groups, securing buy-in from as many people and organisations as possible, and so we encourage you to work with a broad a range of stakeholders in developing Plans.
We hope the Guidance will enable you to take a lead on local action for nature and make best of local knowledge and expertise. The Nature Recovery Team at B&NES Council is available to support you in the development of Nature Action Plans, subject to the level of uptake and resources available.
Please could you let us know if you are planning to produce a Nature Action Plan, so we can keep track of uptake. If you have any questions regarding the Guidance, please contact us at nature_recovery@bathnes.gov.uk.
We would also like to highlight the West of England Rural Fund, which has grants of between £10k and £40k available for Parish Councils in rural areas and can be used to ‘create and enhance rural community spaces for nature and biodiversity’, among other things. The deadline for applications is Friday16th February 2024.
Best wishes
